Zeppelin flight deck re-fueller Otto Mars "the Giant"
American, born of German heritage, Otto heeds the call to arms of his homeland in 1914 after a career as a wrestler in a Coney Island sideshow. Entranced by the flying machines he saw at travelling fairs he is desperate to join the Air Korps but is rejected on account of his size.. he is posted to a reconnaissance flying unit as ground crew and faithfully serves for the duration of the war.

given the choice of returning to the United stateS or staying in revolution-gripped germany he takes the opportunity to fly at last with the new super-Zeppelin fleet as a re-fueller, atop the flagship "wotan". with four years of wartime experience and knowledge of aircraft he becomes a father figure to the menagerie of disabled and veteran "drachenflieger" - affectionally known as "the giant" as he braves the icy landing deck, constanly surveying the skies...
